For those who interested, get putty & plink, then add a session using putty, configure it, save it, and then use the name of the session instead of the cvs's server hostname. E.g, CVSROOT would be user@... where putty_session_name is the name of the session with configured connection parameters. set CVS_SSH=plink. I use the configuraton with WinCVS, and it works great (in WinCVS, set alternative rsh to plink in ports tab). Concerning your problem. You should first ssh to cvs.sourceforge.net (logging in to the shell.sourceforge.net is not sufficient, cvs and shell are different servers). It doesn't give your a shell, but it will create your homedir at cvs server.
